NEWS  June 17, 2008  GenerationPool.com Championships – Jones and Pan

Semifinal Bustamante-Jones

For the first time of the history of the BCA Open, which was named this year „GenerationPool.com Championships“, were held in the context of the Billiards in Charlotte, North Carolina. The women’s field with 64 participants started in a billiards center and moved over to the Convention Center with the last 32 players. At the same time, the 32 men field started also there. The format was 9-Ball in a double KO bracket with alternating break i races to 11 (9 for the ladies) until the quarter-finals. Then, the format was swapped to a single KO bracket in races to 7 for both women and men.

In round one, I played the US player Shawn Putnam who gained a good reputation over the last years. He played well and made use of my mistakes, so that I had to accept my 6-11 defeat. In the loser’s bracket, my first opponent was another strong US player, Dennis Hatch. Even if I played better than before, I still made too many mistakes and so the match remained open until the end. Lucky form e, Hatch did not have his best day either and so I finally managed to win 11-8.

The next day, I really had to play better against Mike Davis (USA), but I could not putt his resolution in practice. I played a bit better, but again committed too many easy mistakes and always brought my opponent back into the match. If I only had managed to play up to 70 % of my possibilities, I would most probably had won 11-6. But 50 % was all I could deliver and was eliminated at this early stage losing 9-11 and finishing on a disappointing 17th rank. Well, something to forget quickly and I better concentrate on the next event in the Philippines.

These are the results of the semi-finals:

Men:
Ronnie Wiseman (CAN) – Johnny Archer (USA) 7-6
Jeremy Jones (USA) – Shawn Putnam (USA) 7-4

Women:
Xiao-Ting Pan (CHN) –Anna Kostanian (USA) 7-4
Go Young Kim (KOR) – Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) 7-2

The men final ended with a 7-5 success for the former Mosconi Cup and US Open winner Jeremy Jones. The final of the women competition, the 9-Ball World Champion of 2007, Xiao-Ting Pan, won 7-4 against the two-fold World Champion (2004 & 2006) Ga-Young Kim. Both winner scored their first title at this tournament and crown their constant performance throughout the tournament.
