At
the fifth stop of the Diamond 9 Eurotour Series in Copenhagen, Denmark, 186
players competed for the title. As before this season, the International
Billiard Promotion Foundation (IBP) can not complain about a lack of
enthusiasm of the players for this Eurotour.
After a walk-through, my first opponent was R. Ludvigsen (Denmark) who plays
for the local club Copenhagen Pool House. I won 9-4 and was opposed to H.
Winberg (SWE) in the third round. At the beginning, I was trailing by two
racks, but could equal the match and entered the 4th round with a
9-5. Again, I played a player from Sweden. At our last meeting last year, T.
Palmquist had defeated me, but this time I kept control of the match and
entered the final round of the last 32 players by winning 9-5.
Here, the draw made me play against the winner of the last Eurotour stop in
Weert, S. Tot (HUN). The first six racks went back and forth, each player
clearing his tables from the break. The player from Hungary managed to take
the 4-3 lead and I had to score. But upon the break, the cue ball dropped
and I was trailing 3-5. I could have won the safety duel in rack 9 to come
back into the match, but the Hungarian player hit the ball with full power
over 5 rails and lucky enough, I was snookered. At 3-6 I missed a
combination 4 on 7 and even an easy 9 ball. At 3-8 I dropped the cue ball
again upon the break and the match was over. I lost 3-9 and my 17th rank did
not allow me to improve my overall ranking, where I keep my 4th rank.
Here
the results of the semi-finals:
R.
Hybler (CZE) – M. Chamat (SWE) 9-3
S. Kaddur (ESP) – J. Belka (GER)
9-2
The
final was a suspense match and S. Kaddur from Spain finally won 9-8 and
became winner of the Denmark Open.
