NEWS - 07.06.04 German Championships Mixed Double 8-Ball – Stateczny / Souquet win

For the second time, I participated at the German Championships in the Mixed competition with my mixed partner Diana Stateczny. At our first appearance back in 2002, we scored at once and won the title. Last year, I had to cancel my participation at short terms.
This year, 82 mixed doubles participated in the Billard café Upstairs in Wuppertal and the quality of the mixed doubles had again increased.

The qualification group 3 with 28 doubles was not only the largest group in numbers, but also the strongest one.
The first match went very well and we won 5-0 against the double Hees / Hergenröder. The second match against Timeranza / Wulff was very tight, and after trailing 3-4, we could turn the match around to finally win 5-4.
To enter the final round of the last 32 doubles, we had to play Kummer / Hirschbichler. After a slow start from both doubles and an intermediate score of 2-2, we could take control and win 5-2 against this double who had defeated Wessel / Lorenzo earlier and so entered the final round.
The draw made us play against Brüsseler / Jansky, but this team could only play up to our game at the beginning and then had to give in 2-7. In round 4, we played a double we had already encountered in the first group match. But this time again, Hees / Hergenröder did not stand much of a chance and could only score one rack (1-7). In the quarterfinals, the double Mr. And Mrs. Bund was waiting, another experienced team. After some difficulties at the beginning, we took control of the match and entered the semi-finals by winning 7-2.

In the semi-finals, it came to the clash with Drescher / Thelen from Alsdorf. My home club BC Alsdorf had nominated this double as a weapon against us, since we counted among the top doubles. We even heard the rumour that the players had prepared special T-shirts for this tournament with an aggressive slogan, but they were not allowed to wear them. And a fight it was! After our 3-1 lead, and an easy ball I missed, the double from Alsdorf took a 6-3 lead. Then, after a black break, we came back into the match and could equal the score at 6-6. We had the chance to win the match, we missed the match point and could only hope for our opponents to commit a mistake. This is what happened and we finally entered the final against Wiechert / Pauritsch with the tightest of all scores – 7-6.
In the first rack, we played a real safety battle, with the better end for us. Then, we increased our lead to 4-0 and it was sufficient to use the remaining opportunities.
We finally won 7-2 and for the second time after 2002 the title of a German Champion in the Mixed double 8-ball.

The ranking:
1.      Diana Stateczny / Ralf Souquet
2.      Christine Wiechert / Sven Pauritsch
3.      Janine Drescher / Michael Thelen
      Juliane Liedtke / Michael Heimgärtner
